Cobalt Construction employs over 150 workers seasonally. Positions include but aren’t limited to: labourers, servicemen, flaggers, class 1 and 3 drivers with air brakes endorsement, heavy equipment operators, drillers, camp cooks, administration, project managers, project controllers, surveyors, foreman and superintendents.

Cobalt Construction is seeking a full time Parts Person to add to our growing team. This position is based in Whitehorse, Yukon at the main shop. Applicants must be highly organized, able to work with minimal to no supervision in a fast-paced environment/ have a strong work ethic and good communication skills. The successful applicant will be joining a strong, knowledgeable and dynamic mechanical team of both shop and field mechanics and service crews scattered around the North. The ideal candidate will have strong working knowledge of Caterpillar, Hitatchi, Volvo heavy equipment and Kenworth trucks. Mechanical knowledge is certainly considered an asset. The successful applicant will be able to think outside of the box and work with tight deadlines. They must be physically fit able to lift 40 – 60 lbs as needed. Duties will include pricing and ordering various parts, running errands within Whitehorse, and managing the shipping/ receiving of parts to and from the shop and various job sites. Computer skills and good housekeeping is required. Valid class 5 driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract required. Duties will include inspecting, isolating, diagnosing and repairing all aspects of light duty vehicles. Must be able to perform regular maintenance/service, inspections without supervision. Applicants may need to pass a pre-access drug test in order to qualify for some projects. There are positions for both finish operators and bulk material movers, if you are experienced, we want to meet you! CLASS 1 DRIVERS Aggregate haul with belly dumps and end dumps, as well as low bed drivers with heavy haul experience. Applicants must have valid Class 1 license with air brakes endorsement, clean abstract and be able to demonstrate experience with references. Applicants will undergo a pre-employment safety screening prior to being hired PIPE CREW FOREMAN 5 year’s experience leading pipe crew, guiding them safely and efficiently across different sites and trenches. Communicate with superintendents and project managers daily on progress, needs and any issues. Organize daily activities of crew and coordinate with other crews onsite to maintain overall schedule SURVEYORS Minimum 3 years of construction survey experience. Applicants must be able to survey independently and have knowledge in Trimble Access - Roads software, PROJECT COORDINATORS Successful applicants will have extensive hands-on experience in both infrastructure and mining projects in a role that encompassed communication with all stake-holders. Applicants must clearly demonstrate experience participating as a key member of a project team as well as promoting safe work culture. Previous experience in northern climates is an asset Heavy Duty Mechanics Successful applicants may be journeymen or apprentices with experience in newer heavy equipment and all aspects of Earth moving equipment and tractor trailers. Must be able to inspect, isolate, diagnose and repair all aspects of off highway heavy equipment. Must be able to work independently with little direction and be able to coordinate with Parts Manager to proactively order parts. We have outfitted mechanic’s trucks that are ready to roll, just looking for the right candidates to take them out to site for the season. Truck Mechanics Seeking long-term, full-time truck and automotive Mechanics to work from our shop in Whitehorse, Yukon. Certified Mechanics and qualified Mechanical Apprentices are encouraged to apply for positions that are available immediately. Duties will include inspecting, isolating, diagnosing and repairing all aspects of highway vehicles and trailers. Must be able to perform regular maintenance/service, annual inspections and CVIPs. Successful applicants will be able to work both on a team and independently. SERVICEMEN Successful applicants will have own tools and experience servicing all types of off highway equipment CONSTRUCTION LABOURERS Previous experience is an asset but not required. Applicants must be able to lift up to 70lbs, be comfortable working outdoors in all weather, capable of working as a team and on their own, be comfortable living and working remotely PILOT TRUCK DRIVER both for guiding trucks hauling heavy equipment and for safely leading traffic through a construction zone. Applicants must have a valid class 5 driver’s license. Previous Experience is an asset OFA 3 Applicants must have a valid Occupational First Aid ticket (or higher) that does not expire through the 2024 work season. Preferential hiring is offered to those who also have a valid Traffic Control person ticket. Experience working in remote settings is an asset COOKS AND CLEANERS Experience cooking for and maintaining a 40+man camp is an asset. Applicants must be comfortable living/working remotely. Must be able to organize supplies, ordering, create menus, prepare food to all health standards and organize camp cleaning and maintenance TRAFFIC CONTROL PERSONNEL Must provide valid TCP certification that does not expire through the 2024 work season.
